Description:
This is a beautiful original condition Boss with excellent dimensions. It is cased in a period correct oak and leather English case with a Boss label. The gun, from the Robertson/Sumner era, is truly a collector's dream.

The brown damascus barrels are rich in color with a very defined pattern as you can see from the pictures. Barrel length is 30" with chokes of R-.012 and L-.035. We have measured the barrels and the thickness is predominately .030-.040 throughout with the thinnest spot being .028 in either barrel. There is a very slight (BB size) depression in the concave top rib about 1/3 in from the muzzle. It is just a depression with no break in the finish.

Slight traces of fhe original case colors remain on the sidelocks that show beautiful traditional Boss English engraving in the tight rose and scroll style. The wood is very nice with a vacant estucheon and a leather covered pad (most certainly added later) which measures 15" LOP.

The gun has a very interesting provenance. Boss records indicate it was made in 1893 for a Major Milner Brown. Our researcher has done a complete writeup on the Major for anyone interested. He was a member of the Duke of Cambridge' "Special Corps" who fought and was captured in the Boer War.

The gun is very shootable and has been enjoyed by its previous collector/owner who shot it on driven pheasant and clays.

Nice Boss guns are much scarcer than Purdey's and Holland's owing to the fact that they made Best guns only and in smaller numbers. You should consider this gun to have excellent investment potential due to its original condition and superb dimensions.
