Description:
German WW II Steyr "Last Ditch" VK98 Peoples Rifle, serial # 7136 matching, cal. 8 mm Mauser, has a 21" barrel with an excellent bore, 95% original military finish remains, the receiver ring is stamped bnz45 and the barrel is marked with manufacturers mark being a shield with "bnz" over "1" inside (Mfg. Steyr-Daimler Werkes / Austria) and on the left side of barrel is an Eagle firing proof, rear sight is dovetailed into the receiver ring, front sight is welded on the barrel, bore was counter bored for approximately 1 1/2 inches, trigger guard is a simple piece of formed metal protecting the trigger, the stock is the correct late war slab stock with a five shot magazine well built into the stock and a simple bent metal wire that served as a sling holder allowing a sling to be attached and this was installed through the front of the for end, this is a RARE late war German VK98 "Volks Gewehr" or Peoples Rifle, these rifles were manufactured in a couple of variations and this model is the last variation (Reference: Mauser Military Rifles of the World by: Robert Ball on pg's.130 bottom photo & pg. 131) produced at the very end of WW II probably Mar-Apr 1945 100% original. These RARE rifles are seldom encountered in the states because the majority of GIs didn't bring them home, they looked too cheap, but this one will definitely enhance any Military Collection and it’s also in Collectors Grade Condition.  Inv.: 2-193
