Description:
Springfield model 1861 rifled musket in overall good condition. All metal is smooth with age patina except for the breech which is pitted from fireing and the proof markings are not visible. Lockplate has eagle over U.S. Springfeild and dated 1862. All wood in very good condition with minor crack behind lockplate, wood burnout behind the bolster and some old bruises and dings. Left side of stock outlined of cartoushe is still visible and WW faintly written on stock. I bought this gun along with some other antique firearms from a decades old collection. This gun still displays very well and is not a war surplus, as I'm sure it was issued and used during the war. Selling this gun at much less the cost of those in very good plus condition that often never saw action.
