Description:
Early pre-war Marlin Model 39 lever action takedown rifle chambered in 22 S/L/LR. This rifle features an "S" prefix, early 4 digit serial number of S5020 and has fancy wood. The serial number on the stock matches that on the receiver. Octagon barrel is 24" with a near excellent, bright strong bore. The barrel and magazine tube are blued and retain about 85% original fading and thinning finish. The receiver and lever retain trace amounts of original case in the protected and sheltered areas with the strongest coverage on the lower tang; please see closeup photos. The buttstock has a beautiful burl pattern to it; especially closest to the buttplate. There are scattered dings and marks from use. There is a gap on the left side of the rifle where the buttstock meets the receiver; right side fits flush as it should. The forend has a fair amount of finish loss, but each end of the forend shows enough to indicate that it too is fancy wood. An early gun, with "S" prefix, a great bore and fancy wood. Should make a nice addition to your collection. FFL or C&R
