Description:
Serial #3189, 9mm Para., 4” barrel with a fine, bright bore that has a trace of freckling starting to appear withi the grooves. This handsome pistol has proper, all matching numbered components and retains 85-90% of the Batavia Arsenal re-applied blue finish common to Dutch East Indies Lugers, and has silvered at the muzzle as well as along the high edges and projections. There are spots of mild freckling scattered evenly throughout, but the “(crown)/W” proofs, “RUST” marked safety, and double “GELADEN” extractor are crisp and clear. About 50-60% of the straw color remains, mostly on the right side of the pistol, with the balance of the small parts having faded to a smoothly mottled pewter gray. The checkered wooden grips are both numbered to the gun and are in very good condition with a small chip just under the safety on the LT side and small handling marks and surface blemishes on both panels as well as some mild flattening of the points. A single period, non-original wooden base magazine is included, and the pistol has the usual Dutch unit identification plate on the left side which is marked with a military hospital unit stamp: “Mgd. Kt./17” (Militar geneeskundige dienst Koetaradja – Medical Corps, Kuta Raja Hospital in Banda Aceh, Indonesia). This is a rare example of a bona fide Dutch colonial Luger with an unusual medical service unit marking, and would make an excellent addition to any collection. {Ref. “The Dutch Luger (Parabellum) A Complete History” by Bas j.
