Description:
Springfield Armory M1 Garand, serial number 19373xx, receiver manufactured Sept 1943. New Criterion barrel. Marked parts are Springfield, all are described below and shown in photos. No import marks.

This rifle is in excellent used condition. All metal parts have been reparkerized. The stock is walnut with an unusual gloss black finish.

We test fired the Garand and got good results at 100 yards. Watch our test firing video at our YouTube channel Fernwood Armory TV.

The gun has been disassembled, cleaned and lubricated. Parts were clean for photos, coated with oil and greased where appropriate when reassembled.

Two M1 enbloc clips (no ammo) and a new reprosling are included.

SA M1 sn 19373xx Specs:

·         Barrel Gauge Measurements: MW(muzzle wear): <1/2, TE(throat erosion):  0

·         Clip latch: late square front type, unmarked

·         Op rod: marked “D35382 SA”, unmodified (but refinished, as are all metal parts). Op rod and bolt cycle freely by tilting when everything is assembled except main spring and hammer (Garands with binding or rubbing op rods tend to have feeding and/or ejecting problems).

·         Follower: late type, unmarked

·         Follower arm: no bevel

·         Follower rod: long fork, riveted

·         Gas cylinder: wide sight platform, flat on top of rear ring, unmarked. Gas cylinder group finish excellent. The gas cylinder/barrel fit has been tightened to maximize accuracy.

·         Front sight: 0.66 wide

·         Gas cylinder lock: beveled front WWII type.

·         Gas cylinder screw: cross slot, poppet valve type, marked “P” with half moon

·         Stock and handguards: new, walnut, unusual high gloss black finish with complete grain fill. The process: final shaping work, including straightening of every surface; back end reduction for close fit to buttplate; stained with black alcohol base dye; many coats of clear polyurethane wet sanded for grain fill; top coats of clear high gloss polyurethane. Grain fill coats were mostly removed – this is not an accumulation of too much material. Resembles a black grand piano. Absolutely incorrect for a military rifle. Sometimes we like to do something different. Can be a display piece or a shooter. Use will likely degrade the high polish on the wood. Polyurethane is not likely to crack over time like lacquer, but it is relatively soft. Like a black car, this wood will show any scratches.
