Description:
This is an early Savage Model 1899 Saddle Ring Carbine with Factory Special Order Deluxe Wood as verified by a Factory Letter which will accompany the gun. In Winchester terms, this would be called a non-checkered Deluxe. Caliber is 30-30 with 20" barrel. It was shipped in March 1912 to Simmons Hardware in Saint Louis, Missouri. Overall Fine Condition with 50% original blue on frame and 70% original blue on barrel that is fading. Wood is in fine condition with minor handling marks and nice curly grain. Sights include a Lyman Tang sight, a Lyman No. 6 2 leaf rear sight and a W. SHEARD beaded blade front sight. Action is nice and Bore is Fine. Savage didn't make many of these saddle ring carbines and of the few we've seen, this is one is a real eye-catcher with the slightly worn in Cowboy look and the fancy walnut!
