Model 1842 U.S. Percussion Musket 16-71
Condition: This gun dated Harper’s Ferry 1847. Metal VG condition light pin-prick corrosion on BBL, parts lock, lock works fine with half cock & full cock, wood stock has only a few scratches, nicks, stains, looks great. Lock has Harpers Ferry 1847 behind lock and U.S. in front of lock.
Model 1842 U.S. Percussion Musket. Made by Springfield Armory and Harpers Ferry Armory; c. 1844-1855. Total produced about 275,000 (of which 172,000 at Springfield). 69 caliber. Single shot muzzleloader. 42” round barrel; secured by three barrel bands.
Iron mountings. Metal parts finished bright. Steel ramrod with trumpet shaped head. Bayonet lug on bottom of barrel at muzzle.
The first regulation model of musket made in the percussion ignition system at the national armories, the Model 1842 has other important distinctions as well. Last smoothbore U.S. arm made in 69 caliber, and the first U.S. weapon made at both Springfield and Harpers Ferry Armories being fully interchangeable in parts. Others than the shape of the lock, the Model 1842 U.S. Percussion Musket is about identical with its flintlock predecessor, the Model 1840 Musket.
