Description:
"SALE PENDING" - Civil War Sharps New Model Carbine - Cal. .52 - 22" Bbl. - SN 67790(Early 1860s). VG+ bore with sharp rifling - shows some roughness but is mosly bright - excellent action is crisp and solid. Metal is excellent overall with some corrosion and light pitting on the breechblock around nipple - sharp markings and excellent screws - original sights. The barrel retains about 80% blue thinning to brown - receiver, lockplate, and buittplate have drifted to a gray patina. Wood is excellent and undamaged, showing only a few scuffs and dings from normal use and retains about 70% finish and has a sharp cartouche under the saddle ring bar. According to the Springfield records ( I do not have a copy). this Sharps was issued to the 5th Illinois Cavalry. A very nice old Sharps New Model that is all original amd untouched in VG+ to near Fine condition and has certainly seen service that will make a great addition to a Civil War collection
