Description:
The Model Nº 56 is AYA’s top competition double, and a long-time favorite of live-pigeon competitors around the world. Like guns for clays competition, pigeon guns must be strong, to endure the firing of hundreds of thousands of rounds. They must also be heavy enough to absorb recoil during days of gruelling competition, yet handle smoothly and point naturally. To accomplish this, the Model Nº 56 employs a frame that is wider and heavier than normal. This is augmented by a Purdey triple-bite bolting system, and sideclips to eliminate lateral flexing. Barrels are 28 inches with a raised solid crosshatched and tapered rib. The stock and engraving are the same quality as the Nº 1, although special attention is paid to the strength of the grain through the grip, because of the extra stresses of competition.

  • Side-by-side hammerless sidelock ejector with wide forged steel action, designed for competitive shooting.
  • Treble grip locking mechanism with sideclips and gas vents.
  • Gold washed internal lock parts.
  • Cocking indicators.
  • Double trigger with hinged front trigger.
  • Rolled edge on right side of trigger guard.
  • Chopper lump chrome nickel steel barrels.
  • Flat, hand file cut rib.
  • Straight hand, finely checkered oil finished highly figured walnut stock.
  • Stock dimensions are 15-1/4” over a 1” wood extension and a 1” recoil pad by 1-3/8” by 1-7/8”.
  • Hand engraved with fine rose and scroll engraving.
  • Manual Safety.
  • Case color hardened finish.
  • 12 gauge with 2-3/4” chambers.
  • 28″ barrels choked 0.020 Modified and 0.030 Full.
  • Weight is 7lbs 5oz.

  • This No. 56 was made in 1955 and is in very good mechanical condition. There is some wear on the case coloring but most of it is intact. The barrel bluing has a nice patina but does exhibit some handling marks and some small flecks of surface rust where it was apparently left in a case too long. The bores are shiny and have not been altered. The stock has some handling marks and has had a 1” extension professionally installed. Checkering is in good shape.   ***   I am an FFL and will need a copy of your dealer’s FFL to complete the transaction. Buyer is resonsible for all shipping, insurance and related charges. I give a three day non-firing inspection and will accept returns only if the gun is not as described in the listing and photos.   ***   See this great gun and other fine doubles at the MacNab booth at the Southern Side-by-Side at Deep River Sporting Clays in Sanford, NC on April 28th - 30th.
