Description:
NSN, .50 CF, 36 5/8” barrel with a fine, bright bore that has an extremely small amount of freckling within the grooves at the muzzle. This is a handsome gun that retains 75-80% of the original blue finish on the breechblock assembly and the rear sight while the 1864 dated lockplate has traces of the original color case-hardening with the balance a dark gray that has some mild freckling along the edges. The barrel has a mostly bright gray patina with patches of dark brown freckling along the top radius for most of its length. The walnut stock is in very good condition with scattered surface scratches and blemishes throughout, heaviest on the buttstock, as well as on the wood opposite the lock. The cartouche is still crisp and clear on the left side of the stock and the armory re-applied oil finish displays nice raised grain within the structure of the wood. The rifle comes with a slightly too short metal ramrod and rates very good-near fine condition overall. Antique
