Description:
A fine quality  duelling ( or possibly a target) percussion pistol with lots of engraving, nice checkering and other signs of top craftsmanship. It is .56 caliber with an 8 & 1/2" octogon Damascus steel  smoothbore barrel . The bore looks good. The overall length is 14  & 1/2". The action is strong and the hammer holds on full and half cock. The typical Belgium proof mark- E over LG in an Oval is mostly hidden by the 3/4 walnut stock. It can be found  on the left side of the barrel opposite the hammer. There is a cap box in the butt of the grip.   The overall appearance of the wood and all metal is  NRA "FINE" +.There is a ramrod and front and rear sights. An unmarked escutcheon plate is set in the rear of the grip.  This was probably made in the 1830's. A handsome pistol for a discerning collector.
