Cal. .577 The lock is marked 1861/Tower. To the rear of the hammer is the Crown stamp. There is no E.R. stamp which indicates the gun was made for sale to a Civil War army, possibly the Confederates. Since then, the gun has turned to a smooth even reddish/ blue/ black patina gathered over the last 155 years. There is an area of pin pricks around the nipple from the percussion cap. The barrel is stamped 25 twice for .577 caliber and three Crossed Sword inspector's marks. The gun is in very nice shape with all the original parts and nicely visible proof marks. The rear sight, however, has both the top edge side ramps chipped off. The brass butt plate, trigger guard, screw bushings and stock nose piece have a pleasing Civil War era patina. The wood is in really super condition. There are a few little surface nicks from around the nipple, again from the percussion cap firings and that's about it. No splits or deep dings. The balance of the stock, remarkably still has about 85% of the original lacquer. The left side of the stock is stamped, "TWM" probably for some military organization. The gun functions perfectly. It has the original ramrod and makes a lovely unaltered historic appearance. Great for over the fireplace or with a Rebel or Yankee uniform at a re-enactment.......$1195.
