Description:
SOLD...Excellent Smith & Wesson first model Baby Russian. This little gun is in excellent condition. Has the standard 3 1/4" barrel. All matching S/N 15513. These were only made from 1876 to 1877 with only 25,548 made. The barrel has 95% original nickel finish. The cylinder has about 90% and the frame has 98% including the front and rear grip straps. The balance were a very little small spots of nickel has flaked off is a medium brown patina with no pitting or bad spots. The hammer has traces of fading case colors. The barrel latch and trigger have about 40% blus remaining. The grips are very nice bone grips. They look like old ivory but pretty sure they are bone. They fit very well with VERY slight shrinkage to the front and rear back straps and just a bit oversized at the butt. They were made for this model or the second model as they are the same shape all around and are absolutely original S&W made grips and are very old. S/N penciled inside on both grips is 17626 so if this is a correct number, they are from a different gun. NO major cracks or chips and have a wondeful aged color to them. If I am wrong and they are ivory, then you are getting this gun at an even better price as the grips are probably worth $250 just by their selves and if they are bone they are still worth more than the standard hard rubber ones. The mechanics are excellent.. Crisp and tight as a new gun. Rock solid fit at the latch with no wobbles. All the markings are excellent also. The screw heads are all very good and not burred up and all are servicable. The bore is very good with minor roughness and the chambers will clean to near excellent. Over all, this is a very nice and above average S&W Baby Russian that would easily grade to 95% over all and rates excellent condition. I have this one priced very reasonable because of the grips not being original to the gun but still look very nice on the gun with it's nickel finish. $20 insured shipping. Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos. Don't miss this one if you are a collector of these very popular little guns and this model is getting harder to find in this condition at reasonable prices any more. Thank you for looking and please see my other antique firearms for sale while you are here. NO FFL needed as is antique.
