Description:
In September of 1941 the U.S. Ordnance Department contracted with Remington to produce 134,00 M1903s to supply our expanding armed forces.Remington was assigned a serial number block of 3,000,000 to 3,599,999 for the initial production run. After the attack on Pear Harbor orders were increased substantially.In order to meet the demands of war time production the Ordnance Department visited Remington and determined that the company could reduce the amount ot time spent on manufacture by reducing or eliminating unnecessary polishing and machining of certain parts.These rifles became known as the "M1903 Modified"These were still fine rifles with some stamped parts and 'S' stocks without grasping grooves as this one exhibits.
