Description: Winchester Model 70 Super Grade Rifle 1 of 291 MADE IN .243 WINCHESTER General Specs: Winchester, Year 1956, .243 Winchester, 8lbs 7oz, 9lbs 9oz with scope, Bolt Action Rifle Serial Number: 391393 The Super Grade variation of the Pre-64 Model 70 made up only 2.73% of the total production of Model 70 rifles, totaling about 15,000 guns. They only made the Super Grade in .243 Winchester for 4 years, 1955-1959. According to Roger Rule's book "THE RIFLEMAN'S RIFLE", there were only 291 made in the .243 Winchester caliber, MAKING THIS SUPER GRADE A VERY RARE RIFLE. Of those made, this fine rifle, sn391393 produced in 1956, is one of the nicest available. The finishes on the wood and metal are all factory original and correct. The wood has a few minor handling marks, checkering is crisp, no chips or cracks. There has been no restorations on this gun. The bore is excellent with crisp rifling and has been shot very little. Bluing rates 99%. The Lyman 16B rear sight and Winchester 103-C front sight are factory correct. Not only is this an investment quality Winchester, but it is a very pleasant rifle to shoot for deer sized game, varmints, etc. and has almost no perceived recoil. This is a great rifle to introduce new shooters to the world of rifles as it is known to be a very accurate round as well. I have several high quality scopes that would be appropriate for this rifle if you wish to utilize the rifle with a scope, including a Leupold 3.5-10 Vari-X 3. Just ask for pricing on the scopes.
