Description:

Very fine pair of Spanish pistols by Canivell and so marked on the makers sink at the breech end of the barrel. Canivell is listed as working in Spain approximately 1720. He was said to have worked in Barcelona. Barrels are 9 ¾” long. These are Roman lock style pistols. Barrels are two stage with chiseled feature at the octagon to round juncture. Lock is chiseled and engraved. The gilt brass furniture is also chiseled and engraved and have silver insets on the bow of the trigger guard and the sideplate with Neo- classical figures. (Generally thought to be a likeness of the owner). The silver inlaid ovals on the back of the grip are family or Heraldic crests. Buttcaps are of the “Longear” still in keeping with the fashion of the 18th Century. Fine pair of Spanish pistols.
