Description:
SOLD...REDUCED PRICE,,,,Very nice 1873 Winchester in 38-40 caliber. Here is another very nice ole 73 that looks like it has been in an attic for the past 75 years .It has the standard 24" octagon barrel. It is in the excellent shooting caliber 38-40. The S/N is 366140 and was made in very early 1891. The bore is very good in this one. Shows strong rifling all the way through. Has some minor black powder roughness but no big craters and no rings or bulges. The mechanics are excellent. It feeds, fires and ejects just fine. No backed out primers and no bulged cases. It still shoots very well with my cast bullet handloads and would do even better with jacketed bullets but cast bullets do just fine. Has the original dust cover that still retracts with the lever throw. Dust cover still has some spring tension so it is tighter than most. Still retains the original front and rear sights. All the markings are readable and very good but the gun has a heavy patina that fills some of the caliber markings on the barrel a little bit but all are readable.. The caliber markings on the brass carrier are all but gone fron honest wear and handling. This is common on these. The over all metal condition is very nice and has never been cleaned on or messed with. Like I said, it looks like it has set in an attic for the last 75 years. It is a dark chocolate brown patina that has not been clean on or messed with in any way. Just the way you love to find these. There is some light pitting on the top of the receiver from black powder flash but the rest of the gun is very nice with no pitting. All the screw heads are clean and sharp and not all burred up. The forearm is very nice with no splits or cracks and fits tight and proud to the metal. Just a couple very minor scratches and dings and that is it. The butt stock is good and solid but shows an old repair to the right side at the bottom{see photo}. It is solid. It fits a little shallow to the upper tang but fits nice on the bottom. No slpits or other cracks that I can see and shows some honest bumps and scratches. Not a bad ole 73 at all and is as honest as you will ever find. Never cleaned on or messed with. These are getting harder and harder to find that are 100% correct and honest and not fooled with like so many you see. Plus it function great and shoots with no issues. That is getting very hard to find. Priced right if you are looking for a shooter and a nice honest collector. Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos. $50 insured shipping. Thank you for looking.
