Description:
For sale, an absolutely beautiful Remington Model 742 Woodsmaster chambered in .243 Winchester manufactured in 1980 with a Tasco 2.5X10X44 scope.  The Remington 742 Woodsmaster was produced by Remington from 1960 to 1980 and was an improved version of their popular 740 model.  It was offered in 5 calibers and came with a checkered pistol grip walnut stock with a high gloss finish, and a high polish blue on the metal parts.  This example is chambered for the .243 Winchecter cartridge, which was first offered in this model in 1968 and is a very desireable chambering.  This 742 Woodsmaster was made in the last year of production; 1980, and is in excellent shape overall with only one apparent flaw.  The forearm has a crack that has been repaired at the front left side that runs from the end of the forearm at the metal cap back a couple of inches at the top border of the checkering.  It appears to have been glued and stabilized.  It would be hard to find a flaw anywhere else on this rifle.  The factory blue finish rates a solid 97% plus.  The bore is excellent with sharp and strong rifling. The action is tight and appears to been fired very little with no visible wear or drag lines on the bolt's dust cover.  The checkered walnut stock set has a lot of figure for a non-deluxe rifle and really is beautiful with the gloss finish.  Aside from the repaired crack, there is no sign of wear and tear on the wood anywhere.  There are no dents, scratches, or signs of wear of any kind that I can find.  It really is a mystery how that was cracked given the condition of the rest of the wood and the rifle itself.  The rifle has a Weaver scope base installed with a Tasco Golden Antler 2.5 to 10 power scope with a 44mm objective lens.  In 1980 this was one of Tasco's top of the line models.  The wide view scope still has crystal clear glass and appears to be sighted in when viewed with a bore sighter installed.  If you've been looking for a Woodsmaster to hunt with in excellent shape in the sought-after .243 Win. caliber, this is it!
