Description:
Serial #127009, .30-40 U.S., 30” barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This is a handsome, 1898-made rifle that has retained 90% plus of the original blue finish that has faded slightly at the muzzle, along the rounded portion of the left side of the receiver, edges of the magazine door, and along the high edges and bearing surfaces. The bolt is armory bright with minor freckling on the handle and body, and traces of the original fire blue remain on the extractor. The walnut stock and handguard are in fine original condition and have scattered minor handling marks and surface blemishes marring the re-applied military oil finish. There are some visible runs in the finish and a partially legible “JSA/1899” cartouche is present on the left side of the wrist. The steel buttplate is mostly a lightly freckled gray patina with some heavier pinprick pitting at the heel. A segmented cleaning rod and metal oiler are present in the stock compartment, and a later commercial leather sling is installed. This is a fine example of a U.S. Krag-Jorgensen and would make a great addition to any collection. Antique
