Description:
SOLD..Antique 1873 Winchester 38-40 with excellent bright bore. Here is a very nice and honest 1873 Winchester. It has the standard 24" octagon barrel. S/N 335260 and was made in 1889. To start with the bore is excellent. Bright and shiny all the way through with NO pitting. The rifling is very strong and has no rings or bulges. This gun shoots like a new gun. Getting near impossible to find bores this nice these days. I usually keep all the minty bores for myself but my safe is full and I just can't keep'em all !!!! The mechanics are excellent. It feeds, fires and ejects perfectly with no bulges cases. The metal is very nice and smooth medium brown patina. Just a little bit of light pitting on the right side of the end of the barrel and mad tube and that is it.{see photo}.. The rest of the gun is in fine condition. Still has the original dust cover that retracts perfectly with the lever throw. NO binding or sticking. Still has both the original front and rear sights. The screws are sharp and clean and not all burred up. The dust cover screw is a little burred. The markings are excellent but the caliber markings on the brass carrier are worn{see photo}. This is very common on this model. The wood is real nice and still retain a nice color and the butt stock has some very pretty grain pattern to it. The forearm is tight to the metal and solid but shows a small grain split on the front right side behind the end cap{see photo} and also a near invisible grain split on the bottom of the forearm.{see photo}. It is very hard to see in the photo and is very solid with no movment what so ever. I would be glad to send some very detailed and up close photos of it if anyone wants a closer look. I want the buyer to be pleased with the gun with no suprises.. The butt stock is very nice with some nice grain pattern. NO splits or cracks and fits very tight to the metal. Has very nice color and is not all oil and sweat soaked like so many you see. Just has some very minor and honest handling dinds and scratches but no issues. Over all, this is a very nice 73. It has a much better bore than the other one I have listed but also has the grain split in the forearm so I have to price it with this in mind. If you are a shooter, then you have to have this 73. A great collector also.. This gun has never been messed with as far as the metal goes and it is near impossible to find bores this nice. Someone please buy it before I keep it for my self. I can always find more room in the safe or sell something else to make room HA HA!!! Dont' miss this one if you are a shooter/collector. Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos. $50 insured shipping. Please see my other listings while you are here as I might have something else of interest to you.
