Description:
Serial #C71, .303 British, 25” barrel with a fine, bright bore that has some traces of light freckling within the grooves. This is a 1918 dated rifle that was refit and refurbished to Mk. III* specs, and retains about 70-75% of the partial wartime Suncorite finish, with the balance of the metal having an old armory re-applied blue finish that has faded to gray-brown on a few spots. The matching numbered bolt has some further silvering and fading along the bearing surfaces and handle. The rifle has a matching numbered nosecap, and the wood has an armory added military oil finish over numerous small handling marks and small surface blemishes throughout. The stock disk was replaced with a small wooden plug, and there are some circular impact marks surrounding it on the right side of the buttstock. This is a very good example of a World War II rebuilt SMLE. {Ref. “The Lee-Enfield – A Century of Lee-Metford & Lee-Enfield Rifles & Carbines” by Ian Skennerton; 2007} FFL or C&R
