Description:
Special Order 1894 Winchester Semi Deluxe Takedown with Pencil Barrel.  Serial # 36xxx ( 2nd year production - Antique - 1895 ).  Several Special Order Options include;  Takedown Feature, Half Magazine, 26" Full Round Lightweight Pencil Barrel, Pistol Grip with Grip Cap and I Style Checkering, Shotgun Butt with Hard Rubber Buttplate, Flip down Rear Sight along with Lyman Tang Sight.  Tang Sight is not mentioned in the white sheet from Cody.  30 WCF Caliber.  Metal retains an honest 80-90% Original Blue Finish with some visable Case Colors on the Lever and Hammer. Bore is Very Good.  Wood Retains 85-90% Original Finish with I Style Checking and decent figure for a semi deluxe.  Some miinor handling marks but nothing major.  Appears the rear butt had begun to be drilled, or was drilled and later filled for a rear sling swivel not mentioned in the records.  That could be rectified very easily.  Barrel is marked Nickel Steel Barrel Especially for Smokeless Powder.  The data from Cody states the gun was returned for repair in both 1898 & 1899.  We feel the Smokeless Barrel was replaced at on one of those returns with no proof marks on the barrel or receiver. What little mentioned in the communication from Cody is both typical and confusing.  A few years ago, we could ask for details on the returns and repairs if any.  Not any more.  A Very Rare Configuration with excellent condition for a gun built in 1895, serial number applied for in 1898 and returned for repairs or whatever in both 98 & 99 and finally turned loose for good before the turn of the century.  Antique, no license required for purchase.  A Real Neat 1894.  Thanks for looking.
