Payment Types Accepted: checks, cashiers/bank check, money order Description: PARTICULARLY FINE CONDITION U.S. ARMY MODEL 1896 .38 COLT DOUBLE ACTION REVOLVER, these 6" Colts were the stop-gap between the Single Action Army .45 Colt caliber guns and the famed 1911 .45 ACP, pretty interesting history in these as they were a mainstay in the Spanish American War and saw service in both Cuba and the Philippines, this example was made in 1901 and is one of the better ones I've seen in a while, has all the correct matching numbers on the cylinder release, frame etc., as well as the R.A.C. inspector stampings on the cylinder, frame and grip bottoms, correct markings on the bottom of the butt " U.S. ARMY MODEL 1896 No.150XXX" by serial number this one was made in 1901, shows most of the early high polish Colt blue used at the time with some very light wear near the muzzle, the cylinder high edges, has a little plum mixing in on the top strap, bright frame blue with again normal areas of age/plum mixing, normal grip strap wear turning gray/brown from handling, butt shows good blue, bottom of the trigger guard blue mixing a little gray/brown but most blue intact, exc. fire blue on the hammer back and trigger sides, wear on this one is consistent and even and not cleaned or steel-wooled etc., tight action, bore is bright and has a few scattered spots of possible roughness that might scrub out, fine matching numbered walnut grips show normal light handling/carry wear, overall a very attractive example of one of the lesser-appreciated military handguns that are just now beginning to pick up on the collector market, priced attractively.
