Description:
***  SOLD  ***  SOLD   ***  Unique 1913 A.H. Fox 20 gauge "A" grade (serial #200687) with 30" barrels choked full & full.  This Fox was completed at the A.H. Fox, Philadelphia plant, and was shipped on November 1, 1913, as stated in John T. Callahan's letter, to consignee Ernst Von Lengerke of Von Lengerke & Detmold (VL&D of New York City), predecessor to Griffin & Howe, firearms disposition & record keeping company. But, this shotgun was not received into VL&D records until March 12, 1915. It seems that Ernest side tracked the "logging in" of this Fox for his personal enjoyment for some 17 months or so. When finally logged in, it was described as a "Special" grade and entered with 30" Krupp steel barrels, 5 lb 8 oz weight, and a DAH of 2 1/2". On March 23, 1915 this shotgun was sold to an unknown customer, as a cash sale, for $20.00. On July 25, 1917 Fox shotgun 200687 was received as a "second hand gun" and entered on page 261 of the VL&D inventory book No. 2. The shotgun was described with similar specifications to those in 1915, except that the "drop at the heel" was recorded as 2 1/8". This Fox remained unsold in 1917 and on March 21, 1918 it was sold to Ernest Von Lengerke, the original consignee, and charged to his account. Also, included with this Fox is a 1920 VL&D catalog "Guns, Camp Goods, Kodaks & Cutlery" and a 1921 updated price list.
This SxS remains Fox tight with good bluing, wood and shiney bores that are both .615, by my measurement. The LOP is at 13 1/2", DAH at 2 1/8" and It weighs in at 5 lb 8 oz. This is your chance to not only own a very desirable Fox A grade 20 gauge with 30" barrels, but also enjoy reading the several pages on the early history of this fine shotgun and it's original owner. $65 S&H to most of the lower 48. Eight far west states at $75 S&H. Postal money orders for payment. No warranty, stated or implied, by the seller. Consignment gun-no return.
