Description:
Colt SAA (ca. 1887)

This is an excellent, antique Colt Single Action. It features a 7-1/2" barrel, a nickel finish, and one-piece ivory grips. This piece features an early hammer that is coarse checkered. The frame is a black powder frame and is in .45 LC. Approximately 50% of the nickel is left on the barrel, 20% on the frame, 10% on the cylinder, 10% on the trigger guard and backstrap. It has early black powder style rifling and a decent bore. There is a strong, one-line address, a full front sight, and a later style ejector rod.
The Colt letter states that the gun was shipped to Hibbard, Spencer, & Bartlett of Chicago, Illinois in a six-gun shipment on July 1, 1887. The finish is reported as being nickel and the barrel is reported at 7-1/2" in .45 cal with rubber grips. HS&B were one of the five "allies" of Colt and the ivory grips were likely installed by them. The gun is mechanically crisp with no apparent issues.
The Colt letter is en route. Information on the letter was provided over the phone by Colt's researchers.
