Antique 1700s Ottoman Turkish Brass Miquelet
Hand-Crafted in the Mediterranean
Here we present an antique Ottoman Turkish Miquelet, set in brass. This hand-made pistol features a very old technology in the form of the lock. The first miquelet locks are estimated to be as old as the 16th century and were used in Spain, North Africa, Italy, Turkey, the Balkans and the Caucuses.
Unlike many examples this old, this pistol’s lock mechanism is fully functional. It was also as deadly as it was beautiful. Like many single shot pistol designs over the centuries, the butt of the grip could be turned into a bludgeon and the heavy brass ball on the end would aid greatly in the task of smashing a skull.
