Description:
Antique Civil War Merrill Saddle Ring Cavalry Carbine

Much Used Cavalry Carbine w Inscribed Soldier Name & Date

Here we present an antique Merrill First Type Saddle Ring Carbine from the American Civil War. These were made by the company of H. Merrill in Baltimore, Maryland in the 1860s, with a total production of 14,500. These carbines are known to have been allocated to the following cavalry regiments: NY 1st, 5th and 18th; Pennsylvania 11th, 17th, and 18th; NJ 1st; Indiana 7th; Wisconsin 1st and 3rd; Kentucky 27th; and finally the Delaware 1st.

This piece is in fantastic condition. You cannot expect a hard use Civil War carbine to be as nice as this one. The inspector mark is still visible on the left side of the gun. The patch box has been inscribed by hand with a name and date: The name appears to be “Elam Ange” and the date is “August 11, 1865”. This date in history seems significant as the American Civil War had just ended in May of 1865 and Reconstruction had just begun. Many Union soldiers were discharged on this day and were beginning to return home.

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 22 inches in length.

Caliber: .54 percussion

Bore is rifled and in great condition and the firearm is in great working order.

Overall condition as seen in photos.
