Description:
William R. "Bill" Hurt extraordinary Camp Knife is the second model the maker made ( Aprtil 1997) as per my request after receiving the prototype that was used in a two-part magazine article ( KNIVES ILLUSTRATED October/December 1997) during an extensive "Torture" tests and evaluation about the very best US custom and foreigns makers offering this type of gear. Bill's knife came at the top-unreal-.its performance defies anything you had ever imagined-it's beyong belief. The first six pictures you are seeing are the real "Mc Coy." This represent only a very small fraction of all the wood that was cut with this amazing knife. About cutting and going thru an 8-1/2" thick oak in seven minutes! You'll do that with a Bill Hurt camp knife, and cut anything between. He offer knives that are work-of-art and yet truly functional . No frills, no gimming, no "secret" steels formula. no engraving, no scrimshaw-no nothing. Simply the best you can get. Blade  is a bit over 12" in length by 1-3/4" wide, and triple tempered-the tempering line is crealy visible..Handle is selected curly maple with fancy silver wire inlay. Double German silver guard and a large ricasso for finger placement.  Sheath is of the wood-lined type covered with fine Kudu skin ( African antelope), equipped with a swivel on the back-this allows you to bend, squats down, change position without being poked in the hip, leg, thighs or else.  Bill was a protege of the late Bill Moran ( the picture of them both shooting arrows comes with the knife).  Blade is stamped JS for Journeyman Smith from The ABS and Bill R. Hurt. If you want the very best in camp gear get this model. I will give the two-part magazine article as well if you wish to puirchase the knife that belong to my friend.  Want to use it at the camp site to prepare any chores-no problems-it's made for that purpose-in the kitchen-again go ahead and watch how it perfoms. This is by far the very best of the best camp knife I've ever tested and used. This knife is not a toy, for those out there who like to use knives in the outdoors, and venture in the wilderness- that's the one to take with you-want to built an emergency shelter for the night-use it-but you've been warned...... watch out this is a mighty knife! I have wriiten another article about Bill's camp knife and this time I went on to cut sycamore logs of many sizes some of them over 9-1/4" in thickness and anything betwen, and then bought it to the kitchen... if you think cutting oak logs was hard try cutting sycamore wood. I will  give you a copy of the article seen in Knives Illustrated as well if you wish........ but you need to buy the knife too! The last three pictures are from the article that I wrote in a newspaper about Bill Hurt and "The Beast."! Note: The knife you are seeing is the one that was used in the newspaper article ( see picture # 13,#14,#15).
