Description:
Oriental Powder Company was a gunpowdermanufacturer with mills located on the Presumpscot River in Gorham and Windham, Maine. The company was one of the four largest suppliers to Union forces through the American Civil War. 

Oriental Western Sporting Co. Powder Keg, 25 lbs., approx. 13'' high by 10 1/2'' dia., ca. 1872-1890s, black/gold label reads ''Oriental Western Sporting Powder, Boston Mills, FFF-G''. Condition is fine to near excellent  light crazing and 2 square nails threw the label (likely held a shipping label. Also a few small losses on the edge of the label, which detract little. Light soiling and toning to perimeter markings. All strappings appear intact. Wood screw bung is present. Remnants of two small retailer's label remain on bottom.
