Description:
This is an exceptional Colt Model 1905 semi-automatic pistol, the direct antecedent of the Model 1911.  Less than 6,100 of these pistols were made over 6 years with this pistol being made in 1910.  This model Colt is a critical collection piece as it represents Colt's FIRST semi-auto pistol entry into both commercial and military markets using the "New Powerful .45 Rimless Smokeless" cartridge.

The right side of the slide is marked:  "AUTOMATIC COLT/CALIBRE 45 RIMLESS SMOKELESS" in front of the ejection port.  The left side of the slide is marked in two blocks:  "PATENTED/APR 20.1897. SEPT.9. 1902. DEC. 19. 1905."  and "COLTS PT.F.A. MFG.CO./HARTFORD CT. U.S.A." with the circled Rampant Colt behind the serrations.
The slide retains the early pattern narrow front sight with the round top rear sight.  The upper left trigger guard bow bears the Colt "VP" triangle proof and the lower is marked with a "W."  It features the later pattern checkered spur hammer version with half cock notch and casehardened finish.  The remainder of the gun is finished in the beautiful and very desirable Colt high polish blue finish with the nitre blue trigger, extractor, grip screws, takedown pins and magazine release.  It is fitted with the original early checkered walnut with the small diamond pattern around the screws.
The Model 1905 followed the Colt Model 1902 manufactured in .38 auto and then .38 super auto.  Few of these weapons survived the World War II metal scrap drives to support the war.  Only a rare collector has a Model 1905.

This speciman came originally from the collection of my grandfather and noted Colt collector, John B. Gillespie, former Sheriff, Grays Harbor County, Washington and former Aberdeen, Washington Police Department Chief of Detectives..  It has been in the family gun vault for over 80 years.
Condition is excellent with over 85% of the bright original Colt factory high polish blue finish.  The extraordinary wooden grips are excellect with only minor handling marks.  Not a firearm you will see at a gunshow.
This speciman is being actively solicited by the Rock Island Company for a 2017 and will be listed here for only 90 days.
