Hungarian Femaru (Nazi Code, fnh) K-98/40, Cal. 8mm, 73XX.
Very scarce Nazi Army Mannlicher style rifle. When the Nazis overran Hungarian Femaru arms factory in 1941. They continued production of the Hungarian Mannlicher style bolt action rifle and gave it the model number K 98/40 and coded it "jhv".
They are indeed quite scarce.
They also took over the production of the Femaru military pistol. The pistol was reduced in caliber from .380 acp to .32 acp, a side safety was added and it too was coded "jhv".
This rifle is in lovely condition retaining about 75-80% of the original factory blue. The loss is sharp edge wear, some overall finish thinning and toning of the barrel bands. There doesn't seem to be any appreciable rust or pitting. Just some age thinning. The butt plate has grayed which is to be expected.
The receiver is marked Eagle/173, jhv, 43. and Eagle/Swastika. The barrel band are stamped 73XX. The floor and trigger guard are both stamped 78XX. The butt stock is stamped 78XX and Eagle/WaA173. The stock in front of the trigger guard is also stamped Eagle/WaA173. The bolt is numbered and sub parts are numbered 2472.
The barrel is really quite nice, very lightly frosted with sharp, crisp well defined rifling. I'm sure your collector friends don't have one.......$1895.
