SOLD! This is a very interesting 1829 Marked Harper's Ferry Musket stock, barrel band and ramrod cut down percussion musket to an approximately 36 inch one band Carbine. The barrel is 21 inches long and is marked "CITY OF PHILADA / A WURFFLEIN". A Wurffflein imported and inspected muskets for the City of Philadelphia militia circa 1860. This barrel came off of one of those Prussian muskets and is .72 caliber smooth bore.
It is a known fact that the Confederates in there quest to get much needed arms were taking captured arms and cannibalizing parts to produce working arms.
This piece was expertly cut down to a one band carbine that could have been used by a CS Cavalryman or Artilleryman for close quarters fighting. The uncleaned patina is all matching on the metal. The metal plate opposite the lockplate has a G marking and the barrel band has a C marking. Action works perfect in half cock and full cock. Wood is in very good condition. Only two small cosmetic cracks. Also has a big Roman numeral X inside on the barrel tang. I doubt the Federals would have gone to all this trouble to convert and cannabilize parts to produce a carbine like this. Cannot guarantee it but it is highly probable that this was a CS Arsenal converted weapon.
