Description:
The Model 1 was the first firearm manufactured by Smith & Wesson. This is a nice example. The caliber is .22 short and the octogon barrel is 3 & 3/16" long. The barrel tips up to allow the cylinder to be removed and loaded with 7 cartridges. The action is strong and the hinge is tight. Everything works as designed. 30 to 50% of the blueing remains. The grips are in  good condition with only minor scratches. The serial # is 57227. The cylinder is markd: :Patented  April 3, 1855, July 5, 1859, and Dec. 18, 1860. 117,000 of these were made between 1860 and 1868.
