EXCEPTIONAL SHENANDOAH VALLEY PERCUSSION HALF STOCK RIFLE SIGNED A. MCGILVRAY HARRISONBURG, VA. W/FAMILY PROVENANCE CA. 1850. 60” o/a with 44” octagon .45 caliber rifled barrel signed in script “A. MCGILVRAY HARRISONBURG, VA.”. Lock signed with maker’s name “A. McGILVRAY” as well. Scroll engraved iron patch box and engraved barrel tang with double gold bands at the breech of the barrel. Fine scroll engraved mounts and silver “EIGHT POINT COMPASS STAR” inlaid on cheek rest. Silver wedge escutcheons and silver open work side plate. Silver wire inlay on cheek rest and about the star inlay. German silver cap trap in the stock belly and a German silver forend cap as well. Excellent high quality tiger maple stock and original hickory ramrod. Original hand made double set triggers. All original and complete except for one small inlay missing in front of the lock plate beneath the nipple bolster. Superb condition with the metal having all the original patina and the stock excellent. Triggers in working order and fine bore. Scarce and exceptional Shenandoah Valley rifle and with original Rocky Mount, Virginia family history and acquired by us directly from a direct descendant.
