Description:
SOLD..Antique 1886 Winchester 45-70 OB. Here is a very honest 1886 in the very sought after 45-70 caliber. It has the standard 26" octagon barrel. S/N 26740 and made in 1888. This gun is 100% correct and honest. The bore is very good. NO rings or bulges. Strong rifling all the way through. Just shows some very minor roughness and frosting but NO big pits or craters. Very nice bore for a fairly early 86. The mechanics are excellent.. It feeds, fires and ejects just fine. It shoots great. Still very accurate. No backed out primers or bulged cases. The head space is perfect.. This gun still retains the original front sight and the original rear ladder stlye sight and is marked 1886. The markings are all excellent. The metal is a smooth aged gray patina with no pitting. Just traces of blue remain on the barrel bottom flats by the mag tube. Never cleaned on or messed with that I can see.. There is a very small chip right in front of the loading gate on the receiver.  In no way does it effects the function of the gun. Do not know what it is from or the cause but it is what it is !!! {see photo}.. All the screw heads look untouched but the upper tang screw shows some burring{see photo}. These are very easy to replace if so desired and cost about $3.50.. The wood is pretty nice and has nice color. The forearm fits tight and full to the metal all around with no slivers. Shows some wear to the bottom right in front of the receiver from carrying as it fits a little below the metal in this area. Also a very small barely noticeable tight grain split in this area also{see photo}.. It is a couple inches long but it is still tight and solid and really does not detract from the gun at all.. The butt stock fits tight and full all around as you can see. It does have a couple grain splits in the toe area on both sides.{see photo}. Again it is solid with no missing pieces. No other cracks or splits or any issues. This a pretty nice and 100% honest ole 86 for the money. It is in the great caliber and octagon barrel that everyone wants a nice example of. These however are not cheap but taking in consideration the minor flaws in the wood and the small chip on the receiver I have it priced the best I can do and it is still reasonable for the condition. It is a great shooter for sure. Call 765-728-8049 with any questions or more photos. $50 insured shipping. Don't miss this one and please see my other items for sale while you are here. Check back often as I have more quality antique firearms I will be listing soon.
