Description:
Colt 1877 "Lightning" Medium Frame Carbine - Cal. .44 - 20" Bbl - SN 78138 (1895). Bore is VG+ to about excellent - bright with sharp rifling but shows some mild roughness - action is excellent with perfect feeding, extraction, and ejection. Metal is excellent overall with no pitting or corrosion - some very light surface rust in a few spots on the upper barrel, band, and magazine tube and on the steel buttplate - sharp markings and rampant colt logo. Barrel and magazine tube retain about 80%+ blue with some thinning - receiver about 70% blue with mild thinning - trigger guard and slide extension about 40% blue with the balance drifted to a gray patina. Wood is excellent and undamaged with no splits or gouges and shows only minor scuffs and dings from normal handling - also has what appears to be "10457" very lightly scratched on right side and very difficult to see - retains about 90% + finish overall. A very crisp and all original early medium frame Colt "Lightning" in the scarce carbine version and the desirable .44 caliber in Fine + to near Excellent condition - an outstanding collectible and investment item.
