Excellent Honest Sharps. Highly sought after original model 1853 Sharps carbine known to collectors as the "John Brown Slanting breech” Sharps. It has the distinctive angled breech block which is where the name comes from. Exact same pattern of gun that was acquired by the famous abolitionist John Brown and used in his raid on Harpers Ferry. The ones known to have been used by him fall in the serial number range of 10,000 to 18,000 and this one has the number 14653 clearly visible. It is in the original .52 caliber barrel bore size and has deep lands and grooves down the entire clean bore. Beaver tail rear sight. The action works well on all positions. You can still see the "SHARPS PATENT 1852” on the lockplate. Back side of the gun it has the original saddle bar present with the ring intact. The walnut stocks have a very attractive look that display beautifully. The 1853 Sharps Carbines display beautifully because of the brass that was used on the buttplate, patchbox and barrel band. This is a scarce original carbine. This is a very nice honest 1853 Sharps "John Brown” pattern cavalry carbine that displays beautifully and is VERY FAIRLY priced. Surfaced out of Texas.
