Over 185,000 of these were produced by Colt’s factory at Hartford by the end of the American Civil War, and this piece is a fine example. In addition, the Model 1851 was a favorite of “Wild Bill” Hickok, who carried two of these most famously in his red sash. This example is in good condition, though it was certainly not hidden in a box since its purchase. It is everything you could want in a Colt from this time period: definitely used, but in good condition, Civil War production, the numbers match, and it is inscribed with initials. The hand inscription reads “LCR” with a star and is located on the bottom of the brass grip frame. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 7 5/8 inches in length. Caliber: .36 percussion The bore is in good condition and the firing mechanism is functional. Overall condition as seen in photos.
