CONFEDERATE GENERAL MATHEW DUNCAN ECTOR, ECTOR’S TEXAS BRIGADE CAVALRY SABER BY DESCENT TO HIS GREAT GRANDDAUGHTER. Standard Model 1840 Cavalry saber with the maker’s mark of F. Potter (RABBIT HEAD/FP) stamped on the ricasso. 40” o/a with 35” blade. Brass hilt with later leather grip wrap. War used and carried with grip wrap replaced by a member of the family in the modern era. With notarized affidavit from Mrs. Arthur W. Ector, of Gregg County, Texas attesting to it’s descent to her husband Arthur Ector from his father Mathew Davis Ector who was General Ector’s son. General Ector commanded the famous Ector’s Texas Brigade of the Army of Tennessee from 1862-1865 serving in many battles up to the very end of the Civil War. Also accompanying the sword is an additional affidavit from author David V. Stroud who purchased it from Mrs. Ector in 1990. Also included is a copy of his book “ECTOR’S TEXAS BRIGADE AND THE ARMY OF TENNESSEE 1862-1865” which includes a picture of the sword on page 77. Absolutely 100% authentic with perfect provenance.
