The barrel has been contemporarily shortened to resemble a “Short Rifle” (20”) length at some time during its life, and the action is missing the left side toggle link. And so while it does operate, it is not as smooth as it should be and should NOT be shot until a right side toggle link is put back in it and then safety checked by a competent gunsmith. The bore is about a 6 that should clean to a 7 but does have lead scale and light pitting the entire length. Still, it looks like it should still spin a bullet and be reasonably accurate to at least 75-100 yards. The exterior is an even smooth thin greyish patina with fair stock that shows a nasty chip on the upper left tang and the usual light bumps and dings of 130 years; the buttplate has some scaley rust pitting. The forearm has two long cracks (one per side) that can be easily glued. Standard trigger, pinched blade front and replaced Kings Patent buckhorn rear sight that has the little “channel”serrated riser. Certainly nothing special, but an overall decent appearance that is just a bit better than the usual no-finish ’73 “shooter” in this price range. About VG as altered. $995 SOLD Curio/Relic: Yes Antique: Yes |
