Description:
This unmarked Civil War era leather holster will hold a Colt 1851 Navy or 1860 Army revolver. Holster is 14 1/2" in height and measures 6 3/8" across the top flap, while the body is 10 7/8". The loop on the back is secured by 3 copper rivets on both the top and bottom. Stitching remains tight. The leather has some age crackling and crazing along with some tiny sections of this crackled/crazing flaked off. There is a tiny hole on the top of the flap where a sharp hammer spur has pushed on the leather...eventually pushing through. The base of the holster has a tightly stitched plug. We cannot find a manufacturers mark nor date. Please refer to Meadows massive new treatise on holsters “US MILITARY HOLSTERS and RELATED ACCOUTREMENTS...page 50.
