Description:
Serial #15138, 16 Ga. (2 1/2") over 5.6 x 35Rmm (.22 W.C.F.), 25 1/2" barrels with excellent, bright shotgun bores, and a fine, bright rifle bore with some mild freckling toward the chamber mouth. This is a handsome drilling that has retained 95-97% of the original blue on the barrels, and has a bright gray patina on the relief engraved frame and side plates. The barrels have a raised, matted rib with manual flip-up rifle/shotgun bead front sight and automatic flip-up U-notch rear sight. There is a small raised dent about midway down the left tube and about 85-90% of the original blue remains with some gray fading at the muzzles and some scattered spots of mild surface freckling here and there. The frame features side clips and third fastener with exquisite relief engraving depicting a fox and partridges on the left side, running deer and pheasants on the right, and a duck in flight with “FRANZ SODIA/FERLACH" in two bands on the underside of the frame. The gun features a tang-mounted safety with sliding selector on the left sideplate and the horn trigger guard is intact. The checkered, splinter style forend has numerous light handling marks throughout, and flattening to the points, but is otherwise in about good plus-very good shape. The pistol grip buttstock has an intact horn grip cap, continental style cheek-piece, and original engraved steel buttplate with five cartridge bullet trap. The wood has a lighter toned oil finish with some minor handling marks scattered about. The stock has a 14 1/8" length of pull, with drops of 1 5/8" and 3". A period Hensoldt Ziel-Dialyt 2.75x scope is fitted in double claw mounts, and has crisp clear optics with an typical German style center post reticle. The original leather lens covers are also included. Franz Sodia is one of the better known and respected Ferlach makers, and this example of his work is chambered in an unusual, but useful, combination. The gun rates very good plus-near fine condition overall. FFL or C&R
