Savage manufactured British Lee Enfield No.4 Mk I*
Offering this Lee Enfield No4 Mk1* as manufactured for the British by Savage Arms in Chicopee Falls, Mass. in 1942. The rifle bears serial number 34C2702 and is chambered in .303 British. The rifle retains an excellent bore and shoots very well. This rifle retains a good 90% of its original finish on the metal surfaces and the stock set has its original finish intact as well with no structural weakness or looseness. There is an ultra-tiny import mark very lightly etched on left side receiver. The receiver is stamped U.S. PROPERTY as this was a lend lease rifle. For you collectors there are Savage "S" stamps located on the rifles bolt, trigger guard, butt stock (behind the trigger guard), upper and lower bands, rear sight aperture, butt stock ring, bolt handle. The bolt is the correct number matching bolt. The only non-number matching part (3288) is the Savage pewter butt plate and this is not uncommon as these but plates often were damaged. Once this rifle finished its ant Axis powers duty it seems to have gone to service in South Africa as indicated by the South African Service stamp on the receiver ring (arrow inside of a "U"). Again to round out this offering my client is including the Enfield sling with brass fittings, "A.B.L./J.D./1952" and the excellent post war No. 9 Mk 1 Enfield bayonet.
