Description:
REDUCED!!!!!!! Extremely rare, Virginia manufactured Cavalry saber manufactured at the Virginia Armory located in Richmond.  As originally designed, these Cavalry saber blades were massively long, measuring a full 40 1/2 inches.  Many of these massively long Virginia manufactured sabers had the blades slenderized and shortened to the more 1860 era conventional 32 to 36 inch length.  The sabers were also re-scabbarded to conform with the standard 1860 method of carrying.  The scabbards were of iron with brass ring mounts and rings.  The throat and drag were of iron.  All of the surviving ones were put into action to arm VA troopers during the Civil War.  This one was probably damaged and cut down to a 26 inch total length cut down sword. Blade is stamped 22 and L or V on the other side.  Could be a rack number or regiment number. Blade has scattered pitting. Hilt is pitted and wood grip has a crack and missing a piece from the top.  The correct scabbard has been made to fit the cut down sword or Bowie. Scabbard is pitted but smooth. Overall length in scabbard is almost 27 inches. Here is a chance to own a RARE Richmond VA produced Confederate relic for a fraction of the cost a full size one would cost.
