Bought this Top Shelf CS knife from Brian Akins Rebel Relics. Below is his exact write up. "W.J. McElroy Spear Point “Lasso” Bowie with stunning eye appeal. The condition is like Johnson & Johnson “no tears”. This is one of the best W.J. McElroy Spear Point “Lasso” Bowie Knives I have ever seen. The patina is just Rebel Beautiful with that legendary Confederate brass aging. The book Confederate Bowie Knives has several of these Confederate Bowie knives listed. This W.J. McElroy Spear Point “Lasso” Bowie is similar to the one on page 132. Both examples have the punch dots and blade upside down. This makes three examples I have seen with punch dots and blades upside down. I guess the craftsman that made these knives was thinking stab and up cut. This Confederate Bowie also has two sets of initials. My guess one or both owners never made it back to Georgia. This W.J. McElroy Spear Point “Lasso” Bowie was found in a home in Virginia. This Confederate Bowie has one of the longest blades I have seen on one of these measuring 14 3/4 inches. The overall measurement is 19 3/4 inches. I have often wondered how these Confederate Bowies got their name and I’m thinking Lanyard Bowies. Just makes more sense to this Rebel. I have sold 7 to 10 of these W.J. McElroy Bowies and this example will have you doing the Rebel Relics Boogie. There is an advertisement for W.J. McElroy dated July 31, 1862 for the selling of Bowie Knives."
