Description: Watson Bros. 20 Gauge Side-by-Side Shotgun BEST LONDON GUN, EJECTORS, 1930, HIGH FACTORY CONDITION General Specs: Watson Bros, Year 1930, 20 Gauge, 5lbs 10oz, SxS Serial Number: 10196 There were many fine boxlock ejector guns made in Great Britain over the last 150 years. There were considerably fewer made in 20ga. guns. There were fewer yet made that would be considered a “LONDON BEST” gun in all ways and in every circle of discussion. This fine gun, sn10196 made by Watson Bros. in 1930, is one of a handful of 20 gauge boxlock ejector guns you will see that is a true “LONDON BEST” in every way. Watson Bros. was renowned for its small bore guns and took special care in all facets of its manufacture. With lots of factory original finishes on metal and wood, this gun still shows those qualities with the barrels still tight as new on the hinge pin and breech face, the best, deep cut bank note style engraving over 100% of the action, with deeply chiseled breech balls and delicate beaded fences…executed in the finest pre-war English tradition. The barrels are struck to perfection with nary a wave or dent and the bores are perfect, still in proof with 2 ½” chambers, choked Cyl/Mod, weighing 5lbs. 10oz. and balanced dead on the hinge pin, this is the epitome of the perfect English 20 bore game gun. The highly figured English walnut stock was fit to utmost perfection by none other than the famous stockmaker Ebenezer Hands, showing his trademark teardrop at the nose of the comb, perfect factory flat top checkering, and deep rich hand rubbed oil finish and not a split or crack anywhere to be found. The gun is in amazing original condition, with clear sharp engraving on the barrels and receiver, 98% factory blue, near perfect screws…no flaws. The mechanics are remarkable with strong perfectly timed ejectors, crisp triggers, auto safety, and barrels that ring like church bells. Cased in a London made modern motor case including a rugged custom canvas cover, the case was made to be commensurate to the quality of the gun at a very significant cost to the owner of this fine game gun. You can buy other guns for less, but you will not likely see this combination of BEST GUN quality, nice factory condition, superb handling dynamics in a London gun at this price any time soon.
