Description:
A rare, low serial number (2155) Spencer Military rifle in .52.  According to research this rifle was most likely delivered to the 5th or 6th Michigan Cavalry in February of 1863. The rifle is in overall good condition. Most of the original bluing is gone. The wood is original with marks and gouges one would expect from a well used combat rifle. The action is completely functional with the magazine tube and spring intact. The initials "S.L" are stamped just forward of the receiver indicating it was approved at the factory by Samuel Leonard. Rifling is good with some pitting mid-barrel. There is a very strong possibility that this rifle may have seen action at Gettysburg with one of the units mentioned as part of Custer's Brigade. All questions regarding this unique piece are welcome.
