Smith, Year 1924, 12 Gauge, 8lbs 9oz, SxS Serial Number: RE 75884 Anyone who has studied L.C. Smith is aware of their famous “LONG RANGE” or “WILD FOWL” model. Made to shoot a heavy, 3” twelve gauge 1 3/8oz. load while keeping patterns 90% 40 yards, the Long Range is very sought after and in higher condition like this one, nearly impossible to find. With total production of Long Range or Wild Fowl guns in all grades at 2700 there are not many offered for sale. They only made 395 in Ideal Grade, with only 165 having ejectors, only 43 with Hunter One Trigger single selective trigger, and ONLY TWO WITH BEAVERTAIL FORENDS. This is one VERY RARE FIND IN THE WORLD OF L.C. SMITH WATERFOWLERS. For those of you that admire the famous Elsie Long Range, and the magic and skills of some of the best bore and choke men that ever lived, this is the “Holy Grail”. Most of the Long Range waterfowlers were well used grey guns. This gun has seen little use and has been well cared for, retaining all FACTORY ORIGINAL FINISHES, with 93% case color, 99% barrel blue, 90% trigger guard blue, excellent bores, excellent screws, and the wood showing expected dings and scratches from use. The gun weighs 8lbs. 9oz. and the beefy buttstock was built to withstand the recoil of heavy loads and has survived without any cracks, splits, chips, or repairs. Same for the hand-filling factory beavertail forend that is a blessing in colder climates. The checkering remains factory excellent, wood to metal fit is superb, and the mechanics are perfect including a crisp, fully functional trigger and strong well timed ejectors. A great shooting gun and sure to increase in value as you enjoy its use. A classic waterfowler at home in the blind or whacking turkey, blocking for pheasants, or blasting long range doves, this is a chance to own a very nice Elsie priced fairly when considering rarity, special order features, and condition!
