Lock markings:  "U.S. Springfield" ahead of eagle clutching arrows.Breechblock markings:  "U.S." over "MODEL" over "1884". These markings along with the 29 1/2" barrel and one-piece trigger guard identify this as a Model 1884 U.S. Trapdoor Cadet Rifle.  These were the last production run of all of the trapdoor models/types.
